Rain from tropical storm begins falling on Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Tucson residents are filling sandbags as they prepare to get slammed by up to 5 inches of rain from the remnants of a Pacific storm.

Phoenix is also expected to get soaked but with lesser amounts from the second blast of hurricane-related weather to hit the desert region in the past two weeks.

What was once Hurricane Odile tore through the Mexican resort state of Baja California Sur late Sunday and Monday. Residents there are still struggling with a lack of power and drinking water.

In Arizona, Department of Transportation spokesman Doug Nintzel says its "all hands on deck" for the agency Wednesday. Officials in Tucson and the border city of Nogales are handing out sandbags.

Last week, the remnants of Hurricane Norbert caused deadly flash flooding in Arizona.
