PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) — A veterinary clinic has nursed an American bald eagle back to health and has released him.
Kelly Price, senior state game warden of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, says he found the eagle on Sept. 2, after receiving reports about a sick bird along the Connecticut River. He kayaked out to get the bird.
Price tells the Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) he took the eagle to the Vermont-New Hampshire Veterinary Clinic in East Dummerston, where Dr. Ron Svec and his assistants worked to save him.
Svec said at first, the bird could barely move. Over the next couple of weeks, staff injected the eagle with antibiotics, did bloodwork and X-rays, tube-feeding.
The bird, whom they named Finnegan, recovered and was released into the wild in Putney on Monday.
