HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — A man who served prison time for one murder has been ordered to stand trial for another killing that happened shortly after he was released on parole in 1995.
A judge ruled Monday that 47-year-old Joseph Michael Simpson should be tried in the death of 17-year-old Krystal Lynn Beslanowitch.
The teen's beaten body was found in December 1995 on the banks of the Provo River near Midway. Investigators found bloody rocks nearby that they believe were used as weapons.
The rocks were re-tested last year with more advanced DNA technology, and turned up a match with Simpson. He was arrested in Florida.
Simpson was convicted in 1987 of fatally stabbing 26-year-old Paul Helminger in Clearfield and spent time in the Utah State Prison. He was paroled in April 1995.
