LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A man convicted of the 1994 rape and killing of an 11-year-old Florida girl is set to be executed this week.

Forty-five-year-old Eddie Wayne Davis is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at 6 p.m. Thursday at Florida State Prison for the 1995 conviction in the killing of Kimberly Waters.

Kimberly's mother, Beverly Schultz, briefly dated Davis but had broken up with him after learning about prison sentences he had served previously for a string of burglaries. The two had broken up six months before the murder. Davis was convicted in 1995 and sentenced to death.

Kimberly's maternal grandmother, Mary Hobbs, said her daughter was killed in a motorcycle crash in 2004. Hobbs said she feels a special duty this week in seeing Davis put to death to represent both her daughter and granddaughter.
