LAS VEGAS (AP) — A California man attending a huge electronic music party in Las Vegas died yesterday morning after he was taken to a hospital. The Clark County coroner's office identified the Electric Daisy Carnival attendee as 24-year-old Montgomery Tsang of San Leandro. His cause of death wasn't immediately announced. The event was criticized in Los Angeles in 2010 after a 15-year-old girl's fatal drug overdose.

WEST WENDOVER, Nev. (AP) — Police are warning residents in the Wendover area to beware of a telephone scam involving a person who claims to represent Wells Rural Electric Company. West Wendover police say they have received several complaints from potential victims who say they were told to make payments to the utility over the phone using a Green Dot MoneyPak card or other reloadable debit card. Police say computer apps can override caller ID, so the local number for Wells Rural Electric shows up on the phone.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada state lawmakers are delaying for another year a statewide performance evaluation system for public school teachers and administrators. The Legislature's Interim Finance Committee approved the delay Thursday after hearing that the program wasn't ready to begin this fall. It's the latest in a series of holdups amid concerns that the program could be unfair to the educators being assessed. The system was to have begun a year ago.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Federal land managers have approved an oil and gas project involving hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in a portion of northeast Nevada identified by state wildlife officials as essential habitat for the imperiled greater sage grouse. The Bureau of Land Management signed a decision record earlier this month on Noble Energy Inc.'s proposal to conduct oil and gas exploration drilling near Wells in Elko County. Bureau officials say a study concluded there won't be a significant impact to the bird.
