Lydia Ksionda, owner and principal designer of Leda Jewel Co., is
inspired to create her one-of-a-kind jewels from a place of personal
joy. "I love to get lost in the pieces, in the craft, in the symbols
of love, wealth, healing and spirituality," she explains. "Then there
are the rocks. Some of them are so beautiful, they make me weep."
The designer crafts her unique baubles from the ground up-literally.
Each Leda Jewel Co. piece begins with a hand-selected gem, chosen for
its unique personality. "I like rocks, but I like them bigger and with
scars: fractures, inclusions, imperfections," Ksionda says. Though
some might see them as "flaws," these elements speak to each gem's
origins, telling the story of its birth and travels.
Ksionda, who studied traditional goldsmithing techniques, holds a
diploma in Jewelry Arts. This technical expertise allows her to
augment each gem's natural beauty with handcrafted settings and
wirework that showcase the jewel. "I have always thought that the
'underside' of things was important," she says. "I knew I wanted to
study metal, because it fascinated me. I could never figure out how
something could be a bracelet, or a ring. How did it get made? It just
seemed magical."
Each Leda Jewel Co. piece carries this magic within it. Imbued with
personal meaning, pieces become amulets to their wearers. "It takes a
special person to appreciate this type of work," Ksionda says. "I take
solace in knowing the jewelry goes to good homes. A huge thank-you to
all the guardians of my pieces!"
Leda Jewel Co. is named for Ksionda's aunt, who shared her niece's
passion for rare, beautiful gems and unparalleled artisanship.
