(AP) - GOOD NEWS ON JOBS: Stocks rose sharply, breaking a five-day slump, after the government reported a fourth straight month of solid jobs growth in November, boosting investor confidence in the economy.
INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH: Industrial companies like General Electric and Boeing were among the biggest gainers after the report showed that manufacturing companies added the most jobs since March 2012.
CHECKING THE BOOKS: Barnes & Noble slumped after the bookseller said it was cooperating with the Securities and Exchange Commission on an investigation into its accounting.
