IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A couple of finger injuries at the Idaho National Laboratory have prompted leadership to remind employees to prioritize safety over work deadlines.

The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/291SgL4 ) a June 6 incident at the lab's reactor facility resulted in amputation of an employee's middle finger. Laboratory spokeswoman Laura Scheele says the worker had been using a hand-held drill when he suffered the injury and remains on leave from work.

On June 15, a subcontractor broke his right finger while working on a heating and air conditioning unit. He returned to work the next day.

Laboratory Director Mark Peters sent out a video message following the two injuries, saying employees' wellbeing is his top concern. He reminded workers that getting home safely every night is more important than any "work or deadline."
