KANAB, Utah (AP) — Cliven Bundy spoke against grazing contracts during a funeral for an Oregon occupation leader who urged ranchers to disavow their contracts with the government. Supporters and family members of Robert "LaVoy" Finicum gathered Friday in Kanab to remember the man killed last month during a confrontation with FBI agents and Oregon state troopers.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Environmentalists are celebrating after the Canadian company behind a controversial Utah tar sands development announced it's scaling back work on its project. Calgary-based U.S. Oil Sands Inc. has announced plans to cut back on construction on its PR Spring project. The company said low oil prices forced two of its major contractors to shutter operations in Utah, and said it didn't have all the financing it needed.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Plant protection groups are suing the U.S. Forest Service, saying mountain goats released in the La Sal Mountains in southeast Utah are damaging rare species of plants. KSL-TV reports that the groups are asking that the nonnative mountain goats be removed from the Mount Peale Research Area and that no more goats be released. A Utah Division of Wildlife Resources official said he could not comment on the litigation.
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Emily Potter led a balanced attack with 13 points and six blocks and Utah closed the game on a 12-5 run to defeat Colorado for the second time in four days, 76-68 on Sunday. Danielle Rodriguez and Joeseta Fatuesi had 12 each and Malia Nawahine and Katie Kuklok 10 apiece for the Utes.
