SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah authorities are investigating after five people were sickened by E. coli linked to chicken salad from Costco. Utah Department of Health officials say that people seven states have been affected. Two patients in Utah were hospitalized, though no one in the state has died. Health officials say the people sickened range in age from 9 to 84 years old.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control wants state lawmakers to rule on whether Starbucks is considered a restaurant before they give the coffee company permission to serve beer and wine at Utah cafes. Starbucks has applied to serve alcohol at five Utah locations.

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Sandy police are investigating the death of a man who was found with a gunshot wound inside a basement apartment. Police say the man appeared to be in his early 20s, but police weren't sure Monday who he was or whether he lived in the apartment. The body was discovered by a landlord who was collecting the rent.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A company accused of using unpaid laborers from a Utah-based polygamous group to pick pecans says the women and children were picking up leftover nuts, not working as employees. Lawyers for Paragon Contractors say in court documents that most of the harvest was done with mechanized equipment. U.S. Labor Department attorneys disagree.
