LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Attorney General's Office has asked to be kept in the loop about the possible sale of Lewiston's St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1LahLVH ) that the hospital could be sold to Capella Healthcare of Tennessee. If so, it will become a private, for-profit business for the first time since its 1902 founding.
The hospital is north central Idaho's biggest and is currently part of Ascension, a Catholic organization that is the nation's largest not-for-profit health system.
In a letter dated Aug. 10, the attorney general's office reminded St. Joe's that the Idaho Nonprofit Hospital Conversion Act requires the office to be notified in writing of a conversion to a for-profit entity.
St. Joe's spokeswoman Christina Metcalf says the AG's involvement is standard procedure.
