WASHINGTON (AP) — A Washington transit official says a woman tried to grab a 2-year-old girl who was strapped into her stroller while riding a train with her mother, but another passenger tackled her.

Metro spokeswoman Sherry Ly says the attempted kidnapping occurred about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Foggy Bottom station. She says the woman tried to grab the child but wasn't able to get her out of the stroller.

Ly says another passenger tackled the woman and held her down until police arrived. Metro police took the woman into custody. She has not been formally charged.

The woman was riding an orange line train bound for New Carrollton, Maryland.
