OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A state lawmaker says retired service members in Utah should be allowed to collect their military pensions without the state taking out income tax. Utah is one of 16 states that don't offer income tax exemptions for retired military members but Rep. Lee Perry is working on legislation that would change that. The Standard Examiner reports about 16,000 Utah residents receive a military pension.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A 52-year-old St. George woman accused of causing a fatal accident by texting and driving is being sentenced today. Carla Brennan pleaded no contest to a reduced automobile homicide charge in a deal with prosecutors in June. She was accused of rear-ending a car in March 2013, causing it to hit a couple walking on the sidewalk. David Henson was killed and his wife Leslee Henson was seriously injured.

The massive of trove of information is sure to be an invaluable resource to historians and professional genealogists, as well as to people who just want to research their family history. The records are available on ancestry.com starting today.

MOAB, Utah (AP) — Canyonlands National Park in eastern Utah is being recognized for its dark skies and lack of light pollution. Park officials say Canyonlands was named as an "International Dark Sky Park" by the Arizona-based International Dark-Sky Association. It's one of 26 parks recognized by the group for park efforts to preserve views of the night sky.
