RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two employees of an international animal protection organization were escorted by police from a public meeting in northern Nevada after disrupting it to protest the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's handling of wild horses. Edita Birnkrant and Nicole Rivard of Friends of Animals were threatened with arrest before also being kicked out of their rooms at a Minden hotel-casino.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Education and tax code changes weren't the only dramatic shifts Gov. Brian Sandoval called for in his State of the State address. He also announced a proposal to pump tens of millions into a program that lawmakers recently considered cutting altogether: child autism support. Advocates acknowledge that funding increases won't fix every problem, but they say Sandoval's plan could go a long way in helping thousands of Nevada children. No opposition has emerged.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Justice Department says a federal judge in Las Vegas has barred a husband and wife from preparing federal tax returns and providing tax advice to others. The agency says that a judge sanctioned Wayne Reeves and Diane Vaoga after the two refused to cooperate with prior court orders. The Justice Department says says the two told clients they didn't need to file federal tax returns.

OWYHEE, Nev. (AP) — A mountain lion that was spotted earlier this month in Owyhee apparently has been shot and killed by a local resident. Police put out an alert after the mountain lion was seen on Jan. 10 outside the gymnasium during a basketball game at Owyhee Combined School.
