LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada transportation official says it could take two week and cost up to $2 million to repair a section of Interstate 15 damaged by flooding in recent days south of the Virgin River resort town of Mesquite. The damage near Bunkerville isn't far from a stretch of I-15 near Moapa and Glendale that washed out after intense rainstorms and flooding Sept. 8.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Gambling officials say the industry paid out a jackpot-worthy $38 billion in federal, state and local taxes in 2013. It's the first time the American Gaming Association has added tribal casinos and casino game makers into the mix for its annual study of the industry's impact in the U.S. Of that total tax revenue, $10 billion came directly from gambling.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has begun an accreditation process that officials say could have students in classrooms by the fall of 2017. The chairwoman of a campus panel working to start the UNLV School of Medicine says it's a long-term process that will continue after students arrive. UNLV's president called creating a second medical school in the state a top priority. The University of Nevada, Reno, already has one.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials have announced the southern Nevada winner of a $4,500 memorial scholarship named after the late Gov. Kenny Guinn. University of Nevada, Las Vegas senior Tara Myl was named the winner during a ceremony yesterday on campus. The scholarship provides money beyond what students already receive as part of Nevada's Millennium Scholarship.
