BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Republicans will try again tomorrow to elect a new party leader. The state central committee will meet in Boise to vote on new party officers, including a party chairman. Earlier this week, a district judge ruled former party chairman Barry Peterson must give up his reign because his term had expired after an earlier meet collapsed without electing a chairman.

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Attorneys are scheduled to make opening statements today in the criminal trial of three people charged in a deadly salmonella outbreak traced to a southwest Georgia peanut plant five years ago. Nine people died and more than 700 were sickened in the 2009 outbreak. The dead were from Idaho, Minnesota, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina. A jury with six alternates was seated yesterday after three days of selection.

CHUBBUCK, Idaho (AP) — Chubbuck police are investigating a shooting that left a 5-year-old girl dead. Police say the gun discharged as it was being handled by another 5-year-old at a home Wednesday afternoon. Police said adults were in the home at the time of the shooting but were in a different room. It's unclear whether the victim lived at the residence.

BEND, Ore. (AP) — A Bend, Oregon, brewery is issuing a voluntary recall of a sour, fruit beer it calls Swill, a result of reports of beer gushing from bottles and one bottle breaking. A partner in the 10 Barrel brewery tells the Bend Bulletin that some of the summer seasonal beer continues to ferment in the bottles, increasing carbonation.
