SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report says Nevada and has among the nation's highest interest rates for payday loans. The study by the Pew Charitable Trusts says Idaho payday lenders charge an average 582 percent annual interest on their loans to lead the nation. Nevada is fourth in the nation at 521 percent. Fifteen states either ban payday loans or cap interest rates at 36 percent.

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) -- A Nevada youth soccer coach accused of striking a referee after a game has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge. An East Fork justice banned 30-year-old Elizabeth Deaton from coaching youth sports for two years and from attending any youth sports activities for the rest of 2014.

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Elko County commissioners are hoping to save time and money by tackling two phases of a jail-expansion project at once. Last week they voted to put the $3.6 million project out for bid. It will include construction of additional dorm space for women and a new wing for men. The Elko Daily Free Press reports the county had considered building the two phases separately, but decided it could save money if done together.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian is back home after spending 10 days in a Las Vegas hospital following a heart attack. Danny Tarkanian says his 83-year-old father was "very tired" but "smiling" after being released Saturday from Valley Hospital.
