SALT LAKE CITY -- A cell phone company at the Gateway Mall is being sued after the manager reportedly copied and kept some personal pictures from a customer's old phone.
Before Ashley Skiby turned in her old cell phone for a new one at Connected Wireless, she says she wanted to delete some things on it, which included some adult-oriented pictures.
Skiby couldn't do that at home because the battery was dead. Her attorney, George Burbidge II, says she was assured the memory on that phone would be erased.
"[She was told,] ‘Nobody is going to look at it. Nobody's concerned about going through anybody's cell phone and looking for personal information,'" Burbidge says.
He says his client later bumped into Connected Wireless store manager Matthew Kuyath. The two chatted, then Kuyath allegedly took out his phone and showed Skiby one of her pictures the store was supposed to erase.
"She had something on this phone that was confidential, and now she knows it's out of the box," Burbidge says.
Burbidge says they don't know how much they'll ask for in damages because they don't know how far the pictures have been passed. Store workers declined to comment.
