SALT LAKE CITY -- Two cars collided in a Salt Lake intersection Monday afternoon. The accident sent one person to the hospital.
Police say a Chevy Tahoe was entering the intersection of 1300 East and Zenith Avenue when it was hit by the white car with such force it caused the Tahoe to roll into a fence.
Witness Melissa Livingston had to swerve out of the way to avoid the accident.
"In my head I said: 'I'm gonna get out and I'm gonna see a dead kid.' And I started just running to the car. I left my car on, my door open; I just bolted," Livingston said.
She was surprised to find the 19-year-old driver in good spirits, despite a horrible injury.
"I was crying and more shooken up than he was, and he was the one that had a pole through his leg," Livingston said.
It took emergency crews 45 minutes to cut the driver out of the Tahoe. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the other car was not hurt.
Police are investigating who caused the accident.
