SALT LAKE CITY -- Police have now identified two people they questioned following a robbery at a check cashing store on Redwood Road as witnesses, not suspects in the holdup.
Aurelio Ruelas, who owns Ruelas Envios Y Multiservicios, at 55 N. Redwood Rd., said one of his clerks called Thursday morning, asking if she should let two men into the store. She decided to open the door and ask what they wanted.
"She said to them, ‘Wait a minute', and then the phone goes off," Ruelas said.
Ruelas immediately called police. When officers arrived, they found the clerk bound with duct tape, and the money gone, but Salt Lake City police Sgt. Robin Snyder said surveillance video inside the store gave them a good description.
Police also captured images of a pickup truck leaving from behind the store. Officers got a license plate number and took two men into custody, but now they're saying after questioning the men were just witnesses to the crime.
Police are now hoping video surveillance from inside the store can help someone in the public identify them.
