SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The National Security Agency has picked Utah's Camp Williams as the site for a new data center for cybersecurity operations.
President Barack Obama signed a bill last month that included $169.5 million to begin construction on 200 acres at the Utah National Guard camp about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Because the project involves national security, little information has been made public. According to military construction estimates, the center will need to have a power capacity of 65 megawatts -- enough to power nearly 52,000 homes.
The records say the Utah site was chosen after a detailed process that graded different locations.
