LAYTON -- A Layton man is charged with aiding two teenage prostitutes.

Davis County prosecutor Richard Larsen said, "We don't like to hear about this sort of stuff happening anywhere, especially when it involves children."

Layton police say Juan Manuel Trinidad Garay, 34, drove the girls around town twice with the intention of having them work as prostitutes.

There is nothing in court documents to indicate that the girls actually participated in sexual acts. The documents do show that Garay allegedly let the girls take provocative pictures of themselves with his camera phone as advertising.

Police also say he made sexual advances toward one of the girls on one occasion. The activity allegedly occurred between March 1 and May 13 in Layton, the Standard Examiner reports.

He was charged last week with multiple felonies and misdemeanors including two counts of second-degree felony aggravated exploitation of prostitution.

Larsen says all Garay had to do to be charged with second-degree felony aggravated exploitation of prostitution was to give the girls rides to their Johns. He said, "If you provide transportation to a minor, knowing that you're doing so, so the minor can engage in prostitution, that would meet the elements of the statute."

Prosecutors insist this is an isolated phenomenon, not a sign of a growing trend in the county.
