A slowdown in construction around the nation doesn't seem to be slowing down Utah's hospitals from expanding.
The Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem is celebrating the opening of two new floors. Hospital CEO Keith Tintle says that includes 48 new private rooms and major upgrades in various departments. He says their two newly built floors will help keep up with the growing population of newborns and the elderly.
"Adding 48 new rooms with flat-screen TVs and Tempur-Pedic mattresses and all the computerization that optimizes patient safety," Tintle said.
Tintle says in today's economy, it's a balance between watching the budget but still bringing in the latest medical technology.
In West Jordan, a massive expansion of the Jordan Valley Medical Center was finished today. That $52 million project will nearly double the size of that hospital.
