Utah hopes it is first on the list for federal stimulus road money.
Nile Easton, spokesman for the Utah Department of Transportation, says it now has $11 billion in road projects that could get going right away.
"The big money item would be I-15 in Utah County. We studied the whole 40-mile corridor there, and to do that whole project would be about $5.5 billion. Mountain View Corridor, another $3 billion, is on the list. Widening U.S. 6 (would cost) another billion dollars," he said.
But Easton isn't sure how much cash Congress will hand over. "We're just doing our homework right now to show them that we have a lot of these projects, we have a lot of them already cleared, and we can get to work really quickly."
He says Utah is more ready than any other state because all the permits and studies have been completed on the big road projects here.
