A Lehi woman is suing the Alpine School District because she says district officials didn't do anything when Lehi High School became bat-infested last year, allowing her son to come in contact with a bat.

The Deseret News reports Traci Turner's son, Chase Jackson, caught a bat and played with it for hours at the school last September. He's since had rabies shots, but it's unknown if Jackson was actually bitten or if the bat had rabies.

The district says it did inform parents of the situation and told them the district would pay for rabies shots for any student who needed or wanted them. Seven students took the compensation.

The lawsuit is a class-action one, in case other parents want to join it.

Meanwhile, Utah County Health Department officials say if you find a bat, don't touch it. And if you come in contact with one, get treatment. I "If there's a possibility of rabies exposure, get the rabies vaccine," said Utah County Health Department epidemiologist coordinator Lisa Guerra.
