SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) -- The teenager who died when his car plunged in Little Cottonwood Canyon was a 16-year-old from Somalia.

Mowlid Ali had been living in Utah just a few months and was a sophomore at Bingham High School.

He was driving a car that plunged 60 feet off a road Monday night near Snowbird Ski Resort.

A teacher says the boy's family lived in refugee camps in Kenya before moving to the United States. Ali's father still is in Kenya.

He was enrolled in English and Spanish classes and was interested in basketball.

Salt Lake County authorities are investigating the crash.
