SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking for help to locate a man who recently stole a laptop from a church.

A volunteer’s laptop was stolen after she left it open on a table at Church at Liberty Park, located at 662 E. 1300 South, during a food drive at about 5:15 p.m. on June 18, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. Investigators released surveillance video of the theft Monday.

In the video, the man can be seen sitting down in a chair next to the laptop before getting up and returning with a cardboard box. He then leaves the box on the floor near the laptop.

The man returns to the area a third time and puts the laptop in the box. After taking the box out of the church, he comes back to the table to pull the charger from the wall and leaves for a final time.

Investigators described the man as being a white male who is between 40 and 50 years old. They said he was wearing a purple dress shirt with gray slacks and a dark leather jacket.

Anyone with information about the man or the theft can contact the Salt Lake City Police Department by calling 801-799-3000 or texting the keyword TIPSLCPD plus information to 274637. The reference is case #14-99297.
