NORTH SALT LAKE — A woman fired one shot and barricaded herself in an apartment at Pebble Creek Apartments Tuesday night, police said.

At about 5:50 p.m., police received a call from a 16-year-old girl at an apartment located at 850 N. Highway 89, who said she was worried her mother was suicidal due to distress over some family problems, Chief Craig Black with the North Salt Lake Police Department said.

When officers knocked on the door of the apartment, a 38-year-old woman armed with a handgun opened and slammed the door before barricading herself inside, according to Black.

Black said the woman fired one shot during the negotiations, but no one was injured. After about a half hour of negotiating with the woman, Bountiful SWAT and Davis County SWAT arrived on the scene to set up a containment area to protect nearby residents, Black said.

The woman agreed that she needed help around 7:30 p.m. and was transported to Lakeview Hospital for mental health treatment, according to Black.

Additional officers from Woods Cross and Centerville assisted in securing the perimeter. No evacuations were made, but police briefly restricted access to the apartments.

"This is as good of a situation as we can ever hope for," Black said.
