ST. GEORGE — Two mobile homes were destroyed, and two others damaged, Saturday when a fire spread through a neighborhood near 400 East and 900 South.

The initial call came in to dispatchers at 1:15 p.m. reporting smoke coming from underneath one of those mobile homes, St. George Fire Deputy Chief Kevin Taylor said. By the time fire fighters arrived one home was already fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters tried to contain the fire but had some trouble with the location and weather, Taylor said.

"They were hampered by 20- to 30-mile-an-hour winds and exposures — sheds and awnings — that were tightly compacted within the (mobile home) park," he said.

By the time firefighters got the fire under control, four mobile homes had been damaged, along with four adjacent sheds. Two of the homes were a complete loss, Taylor said.

The fire is estimated to have caused about $100,000 in damage. Its cause is under investigation, but Taylor said it is believed to be accidental.

The Utah Red Cross were working to help the 15 people impacted by the fire by providing food and finding them shelter for the night.

No one was injured int he incident.
