PAROWAN — An 83-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his stepdaughter told police he had "no remorse."
Charges were filed Friday in 5th District Court in Cedar City against Nathan C. Zimmerman. He was charged with one count of murder, a first- degree felony.
On July 10, police were called to a report of shots fired at 272 S. 800 West about 12:30 p.m. The body of 57-year-old Janet Collen Goode was found lying in a driveway.
"Mr. Zimmerman said as Janet began walking toward his house, he picked up the shotgun which he had preloaded, took it off safety, pointed the shotgun directly at Janet," and shot her once in the chest, according to court documents.
"Mr. Zimmerman said his intentions this day were to kill Janet Goode and no one else. Mr. Zimmerman said he has no remorse for doing so," investigators wrote in charging documents.
A motive for the shooting has not been released.
Zimmerman's wife filed for divorce on July 10 prior to the shooting, Parowan city manager Shayne Scott confirmed. Officials are looking into the divorce as part of their investigation, he said.
