OREM — Supporters of Boy Scouts from Central and Southern Utah will gather on the eve of America’s Independence Day to celebrate patriotism, service, and honor distinguished individuals who earned the rank of Eagle as a boy.
“A Celebration of Eagles” event will be held Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the UCCU Center on the Utah Valley University campus.
In advance of the event, a week of service has involved several scout troops to benefit local communities. One such project involved troops 827 and 332 planting trees at Bamberger Park in American Fork.
Four Eagles will receive a prestigious national award from the Boy Scouts of America. The Distinguished Eagle Award will be presented to former BYU football standout and NFL player Chad Lewis, venture capitalist Ron Mika, BYU professor and inventor Milton Lee, and nuclear engineer Dee Walker.
A number of men who earned the rank of Eagle and live within the boundaries of the Utah National Parks Council will also be recognized as “Outstanding Eagle Scouts,” a regional award for Eagles who have made significant contributions to their communities.
The evening will also include music from the Nashville Tribute Band, members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Tanner James from “The Voice.”
Tickets for the event are $10.
