LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Wildlife officials have tranquilized a young moose that wandered into a Logan neighborhood near an elementary school Monday morning.
The Division of Wildlife Resources says the animal was reported around 6:30 a.m. and it jumped several fences as police officers, sheriff's deputies and wildlife officials pursued the moose for more than an hour.
DWR biologist Darren DeBloois shot the moose with a tranquilizer dart in a parking lot near 100 East and 670 North.
DeBloois says the moose was a male about two years old and weighed between 800 and 1,000 pounds.
The animal had a tag in its ear and had been relocated last week by wildlife officials after it was caught roaming in a Perry neighborhood.
The Herald Journal reports officials plan to release the animal high up in Logan Canyon.
