LAYTON — Layton City Police are on scene where a natural gas leak has occurred.

Layton City reported evacuations are occurring at the site of a natural gas leak in Layton near 1000 E. Fairfield Road and Gentile Street.

Police said to avoid the intersection of Fairfield Road and Gentile Street, as road closures are a result of the leak. The leak has been controlled, and only four apartments were evacuated, but police advised staying out of the area.

A call came in at 3:57 p.m., reporting that a construction crew laying new natural gas lines had hit an existing line. They had the leak closed within 30 minutes, and the four apartments that would have been affected were empty.

Questar is on scene. The traffic closure is expected to last for 30 more minutes.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
