MURRAY — A woman is recovering at a hospital after her mattress caught on fire while she was sleeping.

The Murray City Fire Department received a call around 10 p.m. Wednesday from the Creekside Apartments at 5300 South and 430 East.

Firefighters arrived and quickly doused the flames.

“They decided to go into a fast action, is what we call it. That’s an all-hands approach,” said Deputy Fire Marshall Pat Killion of the Murray City Fire Department. “They went in, put the fire out, and dragged the mattress out.”

The extent of the woman's injuries was unknown. Her two children were in the apartment at the time of the fire but they were not injured.

Killion said the fire did not do extensive damage to the inside of the apartment but it did leave some smoke damage. Part of the building was evacuated as a precaution.

Investigators had not yet determined what caused the mattress to catch fire.
