CENTERVILLE — A 3.3 magnitude earthquake occurred about 9 miles outside of Centerville Wednesday night.
The USGS reported the earthquake occurred 9 miles east southeast of Centerville at about 10:34 pm. The epicenter was 22 mile northeast of Salt Lake City.
According to tweets from the City of Centerville, there was no structural damage from the quake.
Residents in surrounding areas who felt the earthquake are encouraged to report it to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Word of the quake quickly spread on social media. Rahzy Rahz tweeted, "Guys I tripped and fell. It's no big deal. Calling it an earthquake is a bit of a fat joke."
Even the Utah Emergency Management Twitter account got in on the action with, "Centerville 2014 - We will Rebuild."
The small quake served as a reminder that Utah families are encouraged to prepare for a larger quake by making a family safety plan, and doing things like making sure air conditioning units, water heaters, and gas line around homes are secured.
