(KSL News) Police in Mesa, Arizona are investigating a possible hate crime against a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Officials say the missionary was asleep in his apartment Friday morning when he heard a tap on the window. He went outside to check it out, and when he returned to the patio two masked men began beating him up.

One of the suspects shouted obscenities and made specific reference to him being Mormon. The men then took off.

The missionary had a few cuts and bruises, but was not taken to the hospital. Church officials tell us the missionary is already back at work.
