SALT LAKE CITY — There are kind people all around, but sometimes you have to train yourself to see the good in the world.
Each Monday, we hope to share moments from our readers’ lives that made their days great. Whether it is a sweet note from a loved one, an act of kindness or a person with an inspiring attitude, we want to hear about it.

On noticing the needs of others:
"My 17-year-old son and I recently shopped at Costco. I've had three back surgeries and am going to have a fourth soon. So my son often helps me with heavy lifting. We shop not only for ourselves, but my disabled dad, who I live with. I used to do everything before my car accident caused all these back issues.
"My poor son was taking a break after loading all our groceries and everything on as I was putting light things in the back seat. When I turned around, there was a gentleman helping my son. In fact, he just took over and completely loaded up my trunk and told my son to go sit in the car.
"I thanked him over and over and said, 'More people should be like you!' He said, 'People should just help people.' I shook his hand and he left. I've shopped at Costco for 11 years and never had help like that before. What a great man that just came out of the blue."

On the art of paying attention:
"I had to run in to a store to get water bottles one day. As I walked out of the store and headed to my car, a young man noticed what was in my cart. He was walking with a girl by his side heading into the store. He asked me if he could help me lift the case of water into my car. I was so impressed.

"Not only was he willing to do the lifting, but he noticed and took the time to ask if he could help. The young lady chatted with me about how heavy those cases of water are. It is a wonderful thing these days to have a young man pay attention to the possible needs of others around him, especially when there is a cute girl by his side.
"A shout out to all those parents out there that teach their children the art of paying attention and doing random acts of kindness."

On the generosity of others:
"I was at Wal-Mart buying groceries for the week for my family. I was in the check-out line and putting groceries on the conveyor belt to be rung up. I explained to the cashier that I was leaving some items in my cart because I may not be able to purchase them because I was on a budget. Sure enough buying the items in my cart would have put me over budget, so I began handing the items to the cashier and then paid my bill.
"The man behind me in line spoke to the cashier and asked that the items be rung up for me and put on his bill. I was so surprised and so thankful for his generosity. That made my day and my week."

On doing kind things:
"A couple weeks ago, my husband and I were eating lunch at Mimi's Cafe in Orem. When it was time to go, the waiter said that our meal had been paid for by a single young woman who had been sitting nearby. We have no idea why, but it was such a kind thing."

On going out of your way to help:
"On April 3, I was headed to a mission reunion in Provo and I got turned around and ended up in Orem. Instead of just telling me the way to go, a Boy Scout leader went 20 minutes out of her way to show me the way.
"Then the next day, three guys pushed my truck off a(n) exit ramp when my alternator and battery died. There are good people everywhere."
