SALT LAKE CITY — From someone giving up his seat on the train to another individual helping someone with their bags at the airport, I see examples of kindness all around in this busy world we live in. If you are needing a pick-me-up today, here are some reader-submitted stories that will remind you there are good people in the world.

Each Monday, we hope to share moments from our readers’ lives that made their days great. Whether it is a kind note from a loved one, an act of kindness or a person with an inspiring attitude, we want to hear about it.

Mark O.

On noticing the needs of others:

"My wife and I just had our first child, a little boy named Jack, March 4. I had a new job that really wasn’t going well. I was released from it two weeks after I was hired due to 'conflicting personalities.'

"Easter came around and I had just been accepted to a position with much better pay and opportunities. On Easter, following church, my wife and I came home to an Easter basket full of candy sitting on our front porch. As we came inside and began to crack open the plastic eggs in the basket, we noticed a clear one with a $5 bill in it. We were somewhat taken back when we opened another 10 eggs and found more money. The bills were crumpled $1, $5, and $10 bills with a few holding loose change. It totaled a little under $41.

"My wife and I were very taken aback that a family was willing to take the time to care about us so much. It may not seem like a lot of money, but it was an amazing act that made us feel very loved."

Christa J.

On connecting with others:

"My dog and I were going through the Sandy Starbucks drive thru and a man in front of me also had a dog. Our dogs were trying to show off to each other as we waited to be assisted.

"When I got to the window to pay, the friendly employee said that the dog with the gentleman in front of you paid for your drink. I thought that was extremely nice and thoughtful. It's not every day you get a dog to buy you a drink."

On creating special moments:

"A few months ago, my uncle offered me his seats to the Jazz game. I accepted and took my 9-year-old son for his first NBA game. He was so excited and sat on the edge of his seat during the game. The overwhelming excitement he had was wonderful to behold.

"We spoke with the gentleman next to us and made small talk throughout the game. We had told him this was my son's first Jazz game and my son also shared who his favorite players on the team.

"During half time, this kind man went down to the FANZZ store and purchased 2 shirts for my son so he could remember this night. I couldn't believe it. This was so kind of this man and truly made my son's first Jazz game a memorable one."

On giving to others:

"While in the line at the grocery store, the lady in front of me had a cart full of fun Easter candy and gifts. (She had) at least eight or maybe 10 each of chocolate bunnies, fun printed drinking cups and jelly beans.

"I thought to myself, 'Man, I'd hate to buy that much.' As I was looking over her cart, my eyes stumbled across a notebook. My eyes began to wander over the words that had names and addresses.

"I immediately closed my eyes and felt my heart melt. She had a cart full of Easter goodies for others. This lady is the special kind of lady. There are times like Easter when we don't think of giving like we otherwise would. She is such a kind woman."

On coming together to help others:

"I work at a bank. We have tons of customers come in and out every day. One customer in particular comes in once a week. We know she is homeless, but we all have established a good relationship with her. She comes in during the winter cold and cashes a very small check, but stays around for an hour or so just to stay warm. She does this in the summer as well to stay cool.

"During the two years I've been working here, I noticed she always wears the same shoes. (They have) holes and scruffs, rips and tears. (My coworkers and I) got together and asked her what her shoe size is and are getting her a new pair of shoes — something we hope will last a long time. I've never had to go without anything in my life. This was a great way for us to come together to help someone in need."
