OGDEN — The Ogden Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be rededicated in September, the church announced Friday.
The dedication of the temple, which has been closed for renovation since 2010, will take place during three sessions on Sept. 21 at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to the church. A broadcast of the sessions will be available in LDS meetinghouses belonging to the Ogden Temple district, which covers the area surrounding Ogden and part of Wyoming.
The temple will be available for the public to visit during an open house, which will run from Aug. 1 to Sept. 6, excluding Sundays. There will also be a cultural celebration on Sept. 20.
Changes to the temple include the addition of underground parking and relandscaping of the temple block, according to the church.
"The temple’s entire exterior has been reshaped with new stone and art glass, and the temple entrance was moved from the west side to the east side, where it faces Washington Boulevard, one of the city’s main streets," a statement from the church reads. "The renovation of the temple also includes reconfigured rooms and new energy-saving electrical, heating and plumbing systems."
The Ogden temple served more than 260,000 church members from 76 stakes before it closed, according to the church. It was the fifth operating temple in Utah and the 14th temple in the world when it was dedicated in 1972.
