Police Will Recruit at Gay Pride Celebration
June 2nd, 2006 @ 3:18pm

Paul Nelson Reporting

Police agencies are banding together to find future cops. You may be surprised at where they're looking.

When you hear police are recruiting more officers, where do you think they normally look? This time, for the first time ever, several agencies will be recruiting at Utah's Gay Pride Celebration.

South Salt Lake Police Captain Tracy Tingey says they're trying to clear any misconceptions the gay community may have about police work.

Tracy Tingey: "They don't believe they will be treated well. They don't that they would even make it out of the academy."

Tingey says they got the idea to use the celebration as a recruiting tool after hearing agencies in L.A. have been recruiting people from Utah's gay events.

The gay pride festival will be held Sunday at Washington Sqaure from 11am to 6pm.
