SALT LAKE CITY — A high speed chase through multiple cities led to two arrests and the recovery of drugs, stolen property and firearms Thursday.

A car ran a red light in front of an officer around 2:30 a.m. at 7800 S. Redwood Road, according to West Jordan Police Lt. Drew Sanders. The female driver led police into a nearby neighborhood, but instead of stopping, the car took off, this time heading south on Redwood Road.

The vehicle reached speeds of 80 mph during the chase, Sanders said, driving from Redwood Road to Bangerter Highway where it began heading east. At one point police said the driver swerved the vehicle toward an officer's car, but did not hit it.

When the car reached I-15 at the Bangerter Highway on-ramp, the driver tried to head onto the freeway but did not make the turn, according to police. The driver then drove against oncoming traffic westbound on Bangerter Highway, Sanders said.

Officers were able to stop the car using a PIT manuever on the east side of the I-15 overpass on Bangerter Highway in Draper. No one was injured during the chase.

Police arrested Salt Lake City residents Destiny McBride, 20, the driver of the car, and Jeral Thomas, 26, the only passenger in the car.

Inside the car, police found drugs, stolen property and IDs, cash, jewelry and two firearms, according to West Jordan Sgt. Dan Roberts. One of the firearms had been stolen and the other had a serial number that had been tampered with, he said.
