OREM — Orem police have made an arrest in a fraud case from Feb. 10 involving fake checks being written on the Orem city account.

The city of Orem's bank account was frozen after the account and routing information was stolen, police said on Feb. 10.

Investigators knew who they were looking for, and they believed that two people had been passing fraudulent checks through the city's account. Orem police believed the two people involved are Shawn R. Laroque, 36, and Amanda N. Dixon, 37.

Dixon has now been arrested.

“Tuesday, we got a tip from a news viewer that actually knew where the female was at — Amanda Dixon," said Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez.

Bank photos had already made it clear to detectives who was involved in stealing money from the Orem city account.

Dixon and Laroque are accused of creating two fake checks that were passed, totaling $2,400. It forced the city to put a freeze on its account for a time, to prevent any more fraud.

"The bank and the city has done certain things to make it so no more of these fraudulent checks come through, and we haven't got anymore,” Martinez said.

Police are still looking for Laroque. If you have information on his location, call Orem police.
