SANDY — Sandy Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about 90 minutes Wednesday while police looked for a home invasion suspect.

Police were called to a home near 8300 South and 300 East on a report of a house being burglarized. A man, who police say is also a suspect in a recent robbery in Salt Lake County, broke into a family member's home through a window, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jon Arnold.

A female inside the house ran out to the backyard and called 911, Arnold said. As officers were responding to the scene, another family member thought she saw the man walking on the property of Sandy Elementary School, he said.

Fearing the man might be armed, police put the school in lockdown, Arnold said. Classes went ahead as normal, but students were not allowed in the hallways, and no one could enter or leave the building.

After searching the school and the residence, the man was not found. The search for the man continued Wednesday.
