TAYLORSVILLE — A small-business owner was pleading for help Tuesday in finding a customer who he says turned into a thief.

Alberto Magdaleno owns and runs a bounce house business known as All Stars Jumpers. On Saturday, a woman called Magdaleno, saying she wanted to rent two jumpers for her niece’s birthday party. At 3:30 p.m., Magdaleno met the woman at a Taylorsville park at 4700 South Redwood Road to set them up.

“They had tables, two tables with the cover, happy birthday. The poles, they had the little strings, you know. It looked like a party,” Magdaleno said, describing the decorations he saw in the park’s picnic area.

He said there was no power so the woman sent her husband to rent a generator.

“The wife just told me, ‘You know, you can just leave and we can plug in the generator and we should be good to go,’ ” Magdaleno said.

Magdaleno called the woman four hours later to confirm the pickup and that’s when she told him they had moved the party to a park in Murray because they couldn’t get the generator.

He said he rushed to the park in Taylorsville before going to the park in Murray.

The Unified Police Department said detectives are investigating the case. Tips can be reported to the agency at (801) 743-7000.

“I just came here fast. They were not here so I went there. They were not there, so they were just gone,” Magdaleno said.

He said he tried calling the woman again and she had disconnected her cellphone. Magdaleno says the theft is frustrating. He said he and his wife used their savings to start this small business and replacing them would set them back about $4,000.

“We have this little business as part of my regular income just to be able to survive,” he said.

Magdaleno filed a police report and gave officers the woman’s name, ID number and car license plate. But he wants people to keep an eye out for the two bounce houses and email him with information at allstarsjumpers@gmail.com.
