MAGNA – Police are looking for a man who attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl after school Thursday.

A girl was walking home from school on 3500 South and 8900 West around 1:15 p.m. when a man pulled up in a car alongside her. He called out to her and, thinking he knew her family, she approached the vehicle, police said.

As she approached, the man got out of the car, grabbed her arm and started pulling her into the car. The girl screamed and the man let go before running to his car. The man fled in an unknown direction, an spokesperson from the Unified Police Department said.

The girl ran home and reported the incident. Officers searched the area but did not locate the man.

“We would just remind the public to be extra vigilant with their children in that area,” UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal told KSL Newsradio.

Police are looking for the man, who is described as 30 to 40 years old, standing at 6-feet-1 and weighing about 300 pounds. He had a goatee, was wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball hat with flames on the side.

He was driving an older style baby blue minivan without windows in the back seats, according to police.

Police do not believe he is connected with any other abduction cases, but police are concerned he may look for another victim, Hoyal said.
