SALT LAKE CITY — The Ktrak snow bike kit is a new mountain bike conversion system that’s catching a lot of attention this winter. According to it designers, the Ktrak kit allows you to create an all-terrain machine by replacing your bike’s front wheel with a ski and then converting the rear wheel into a snow track.

One thing the Ktrak kit has going for it is that it’s compatible with most mountain bikes on the market. This certainly eliminates one of the major hurdles that often haunt niche products like this.

Reviews of the Ktrak kit are starting to trickle in from around the world, but at this point it’s hard to tell if the system will catch on with a broad audience. While the conversion kit certainly makes ordinary mountain bikes look awesome, it’s questionable how functional a Ktrak-equipped bike would be in rugged winter conditions.

Perhaps anticipating these concerns, the official website claims that anything you could do in normal conditions can be done in the snow with the Ktrak system. The website also assures prospective buyers that the kit is easy to install and requires only basic tools.

You can go to Ktrak’s Facebook page to see photos of mountain bikes outfitted with the system.

What do you think? Would you try a Ktrak kit on your mountain bike? Let us know on the comment boards.
