SALT LAKE CITY — A FrontRunner train struck a semitrailer Wednesday when the truck's driver stopped while still partially on the tracks.
The driver of the truck had crossed the tracks at 1800 North shortly before 5:20 p.m. and then stopped with the end of the truck still on the tracks in the path of a northbound FrontRunner train, Utah Transit Authority spokesman Remi Barron said.
The truck driver told investigators he had stopped to look at a GPS device, Barron said. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Debris from the crash covered the tracks, stopping trains in both directions, and a bus bridge was put in place between the North Temple and Woods Cross FrontRunner stations until 9 p.m.
Once service was restored, trains were required to pass through the area at reduced speeds, Barron said.
Investigators are continuing to look at the situation, and there was no word on whether charges would be filed in the crash, Barron said.
