MURRAY — Two people are in police custody after a chase that ended with a serious crash in Murray.
Emergency dispatchers received a call early Monday morning from someone at the Driftwood Apartments, near 3900 South and 700 West, reporting a couple trying to break into a white Honda, according to Sgt. Kevin Betterton of the Unified Police Department.
Officers responded and pulled over the Honda as it was leaving the parking lot. The car initially stopped but then sped off.
About six blocks later, at 1300 West, the driver of the Honda lost control. The car crossed over traffic, went through a fence, and smashed into a tree.
A police dog went after the driver as he tried to get out and run.
A woman in the car, however, needed medical attention.
“The female, there was a pole from the fence that went through the windshield. Some of the glass struck her in the face,” Betterton said
Both the driver and passenger were treated on the scene then taken into police custody.
Officers said it appears the couple used a shaved key to steal the car.
No word yet on the charges they potentially face.
