Moose chase leads to fine for snowboarder

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Two snowboarders thought they were having a little fun as they chased a moose down a mountain at Whitefish Mountain Resort in Montana.

The boarders chased the moose for quite a while until suddenly the moose stopped and turned. At that point, the boarder behind the camera wiped out.

Fortunately, the moose took off. But the boarder made the unfortunate mistake of [It was a big deal to the National Forest Service, which fined that boarder $225. "We do have regulations about harassing wildlife and what they did fell under that," said Wade Muehlof of the National Forest Service.

"It's an education tool to try and help both men," Muehlhof told the Whitefish Pilot. "We're happy it had a positive outcome, but they should have made a different decision," Muehlhof said. "The snowboarder not only put himself in danger, be he could have put the moose or someone else in danger."
