SALT LAKE CITY — The Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are quickly approaching and we want to get you ready.
Out of the dozens of events in the games one of the most popular is the snowboard halfpipe. American Shaun White has owned the competition and will be competing for his third consecutive Olympic snowboard halfpipe gold medal in Sochi.
If you ever watch the competition and think to yourself, "That looks really hard and dangerous," then your instincts are correct.
The halfpipe is 200 meters long, that's over 650 feet, and the walls are 22-feet high.
In the infographic attached to the story you get a quick look at the Double Cork, one of the hardest tricks to perform, and it also gives us a look at method and indy air tricks.
Shaun White will be the favorite heading into the games and Australian Torah Bright hopes to defend her gold medal in the event as well.
Sochi will also mark the debut of freestyle skiing halfpipe.
The men's ski and snowboard halfpipe events will be held on the 11th and 18th while the women's will be held on the 12th and the 20th. And you can catch them on NBC.
